Why Yoga?

Yoga in Sanskrit translates to "to yoke", meaning to bring together. Whether that means bringing together mind and body, body and spirit, individual consciousness and universal consciousness, or breath and movement that is for you to discover within yourself. Yoga at its foundation is the practice of unifying.

I found yoga in 2014 after leaving a TRX class thinking it would be a good stretch after an intense workout. I dropped into an advanced class because I thought, "How hard can stretching be" and proceeded to get my butt kicked. Despite the misjudgement in my first class I felt something stir inside or a deep calling that hasn't left after all these years.

Throughout my journey I have practiced Bikram, Vinyasa, Kundalini, Yin, and a bit of everything in between, and while I love how I physically feel after a practice, deep relief and suppleness, I continuously show back up for the emotional relief this practice has gifted me.

I spent my early twenties in a constant struggle with anxiety, depression, and relentless anger that I couldn't shake; through yoga I have been able to recognize how emotions feel in my body, respond rather than react, and find relief in my life.

My "why" as a teacher is to intertwine this sacred and beautiful practice into your life so you too can find balance. I hold space so you can explore all parts of you and "yoke" them together to become your whole healed self. I believe when we work our personal healing journey we have the power to heal the world.

I look forward to seeing you on your mat.
