fall equinox lessons + journal prompts

The seasons are a gentle, yet powerful reminder to tune back in. Today, on the fall equinox is one of the two days where Earth is in perfect balance between light and dark and also begins a crossing of a threshold into longer nights and our descent into winter.

I love the change of the seasons as it brings pause to our lives, a gentle reminder yet powerful nudge to tune back in, reflect, and realign.

In the spring, in the garden and metaphorically, we planted our seeds, goals, and intentions for the year. In the summer under the long days and high energy - whatever we planted and tended grew and flourished. Now, in the fall, as the garden begins to die back we are called to harvest what is left, called back into rhythm and routine, and to begin wrapping up our season and tie up any loose ends.

To collect, gather, and store what energy is left.

Fall is a time of shedding, release, and letting go. The leaves and flowers that fall to the Earth isn't the sign of a final ending or death - but quite the opposite. They become a living soil for the forest floor, a hiding place for critters to over winter, composted material that becomes nourishment for the root system. Continuously recycled and a greater part of the growth.

So, as you stand here balanced between light and dark, between summer and winter in the transitionary season of fall. As you stand at the crux of harvest season and the beginning of shedding, I invite you to tune back in and get curious. Grab your journal and pour a cup of tea, it's time to go deeper.

Fall Equinox Journal Prompts.

  • Remember that the equinoxes are two days where the days and nights are equal and perfectly balanced, we ask "Where do I feel balanced in my life - what is going really well right now? **it is so important to highlight what is going right to show our brain to continue in that direction.

  • What feels out of balance right now? What is getting in the way and what can I can do to bring more balance to these areas of life? ** I find it helpful to make categories.  (relationships, friendships, job, health, finances, family) and write percentages of what you are currently dedicating time towards, and how you could shift those percentages towards more balance in your life, For example, I was spending about 80% on career, 10% on personal, 10% on family. this felt way out of balance for me. I decided to take social media posting off my phone, get back in my personal morning Kundalini practice and evening meditation, and create dedicated family game time - Friday board games, midday brain breaks with family, etc. Balance to me looks like

  • 40% life purpose/career, 25 % family, 25%personal, 10%community = 100% whole human.

  • Are there any goals you had for yourself this year that haven't been completed? What do you need to do in order to wrap those up and complete them?

  • What intentions or goals did you seed that went really well- what were you able to "harvest" this year? Make a list of all the wonderful things you completed

  • Give gratitude to summer and all the abundance you have in your life. What do you have to be grateful for? It is nice to go through your camera roll and give gratitude to all the beautiful things you have been able to do. ex. beach day, family camping trip, friend came to town, a concert, etc.

  • Did you have any intentions that got away from you or didn't flourish? Perhaps they weren't planted in the right soil. Is that intention still important to you? If so, can you notice what got in the way and what can you change for next year? How can you water and tend to those seeds differently

  • Is there something that keeps sticking or getting in the way of your purpose? A feeling of unease when you are in a certain situation or relationship? What are you ready to shed, release and finally let go of in order to create more space. Knowing that when you let go and release it becomes the composted nutrients we need in order to grow.

Happy journaling + Happy fall

Enjoy Nature today, smell the falling leaves, feel the shift, and give gratitude to the Earth for her reminders and abundance.
